Society Doesn’t Get to Decide How or When You Heal

Somewhere along the way, healing became something we felt pressured to perform.
To move on quickly.
To “be over it” by a socially acceptable timeline.
To forgive before we’re ready.
To explain our pain in ways that make other people comfortable.
And if we don’t?
We’re told we’re stuck. Bitter. Dramatic. Living in the past.
But the truth is, the world rarely makes space for healing because it's uncomfortable and not what they want to deal with.

However, what we need to remember that Healing is not a deadline. It’s not a trend. And it is not up for public approval.
What hurt you matters, even if others don’t understand it.
Not all wounds are visible.
Not all pain comes from one clear moment.
Some of the deepest injuries come from slow erosion, repeated dismissals, unmet needs, emotional neglect, betrayal that didn’t look dramatic enough to “count.”
So when someone asks why you’re still affected, what they’re really saying is:
“I don’t see your pain, therefore I don’t validate it.”
And that can hurt just as much as the original wound.
Healing Doesn’t Follow a Script
The world loves clean narratives.
You get hurt.
You cry.
You learn a lesson.
You glow up.
You move on.
But real healing is rarely linear or aesthetic.
It’s messy. Cyclical. Quiet.
Some days you feel strong and grounded; other days the same old ache shows up without warning.
That doesn’t mean you’re regressing.
It means you’re human.

Healing often looks like:
Setting boundaries that others don’t like
Taking breaks when people expect productivity
Feeling anger after you thought you’d found peace
Revisiting grief you assumed you’d already processed
None of that is failure.
It’s integration.
You Don’t Owe Anyone Proof of Progress
One of the most exhausting parts of healing is feeling like you have to justify it.
You are not required to package your growth in a way that reassures others.
Your healing is happening even when it’s invisible.
Even when it’s slow.
Even when it looks like rest instead of resilience.
Especially then.
Your Timeline Is Sacred
There is no universal clock for healing.
What took years to wound may take time to untangle.
What was minimized by others may need extra care and patience.
What you survived quietly still deserves gentleness.
You don’t heal on someone else’s schedule just because they’re uncomfortable sitting with your truth.

You heal when your nervous system feels safe enough.
When your body trusts again.
When your heart softens at its own pace.
And that timing belongs to you.
Let This Be Your Permission Slip
You are allowed to:
Heal without explaining yourself
Take the long way if that’s what your soul needs
Release the pressure to “be better by now”
Honor the parts of you that are still tender
The world doesn’t get to decide how or when you heal.
Only you do.
